Well, it has been a quick week. We have loved this warm weather, but everything is dying around here with no water. However, I'm not complaining, we could have too much water like some other people south of us.
Tara had a great week at school. She finally got to be the line leader and two days in a row she ate all her lunch. Gene asked her how she did that and she responded, "Mom finally gave me good food." Nice. She eats lunch at 10:33 am so, I just send snack stuff, but I guess I finally figured out what she will eat. The kids have been on a knock-knock joke kick. They are always going around saying "knock'knock" waiting for anyone to say "who's there?" and they are coming up with the funniest things and each of them laugh at the other, no matter the response.
Emily finally will begin preschool on Tues. She had a few delays there with the water leak and the dishwasher needing repair and the school assembly, etc. Needless to say, I"m not telling her til Tues. morning that she has school that day. She said something funny the other day, she said," I'm starving..." and I looked at her in disbelief and said "your eggs and toast are right in front of you" and she said "that means I need candy!!"
Gene's company sponsored a free day at the zoo with tickets, parking and lunch all included. Needless to say we had a fantastic time. This was really a good time to go...the kids were are thrilled. We spent the early morning on the trail and seeing the outlying animals, then by the time it started getting hot we ate lunch and met alot of Gene's co-workers, got the kids icecream and headed home. You can see by the photos we had a good time.

Well, here it is another week gone by. We have had 89+ weather this week with cool mornings..so, we open up the house but by 11am we have to kick on the a/c to keep comfortable. I can hardly wait for the cooler weather. Last Monday our bishop's mother and father died seperately within a 24 hour period. It was pretty sad, but the family is doing pretty well. I gave Jake a haircut, which always makes me crazy. He won't stand or sit still. He was pretty upset about it, but now I can stand to look at him. It was getting so long. He has been asking to go to the bathroom alot lately....and I let him go everytime he asks...but on Tues. he actually went in the potty! We had a party. Surely we are not that close to having him potty trained but we are on the way.
Tara can read a few words now....the words "like" and " is" and a few phrases from "Green Eggs and Ham". Mostly the phrase "I do not like"....."Sam I am"
I got my next class in the mail after getting a 98 on my new testament final! hooray! It's probably the last A I will get for a while. This class is pyscological statistics. It took me an hour to read through the first chapter....then I had to get Gene to explain every other word to me and explain all the examples. and then help me do the work sheet. I am going to take a long time to do this class. Maybe I should have taken 4 French classes instead!
Emily had her orientation for preschool on Thursday. She painted twice, played puzzles and met all her new school friends. I had to drag her out of the room. Unfortunately, they won't start until next Friday because of other obligations the high school students have. But, Emily definately is ready. That night we had the missionaries over for dinner. Emily had us all rolling. She was doing everything she could to get us all to laugh, saying "oh, what the hey" like an indian and tooting and saying I do not like green eggs and turkey.....I do not like green eggs and hot dogs..., etc. I was crying tears of laughter....she does well when she has a new audience.
Friday night Gene took me to the Tennessee fair. We haven't been in a few years. It was full of the carnival games, rides and food. We had funnel cakes and Gene had a polish sausage somewhere amoungst the onions. The best part was Billy Dean (for those of you who haven't heard the name, a country singer) had a concert there. We got seats on the 4th row. I could see his dimples! It was so fun, he was very entertaining....when he sang "Billy the kid" we thought of Christopher who used to love that song and when he sang "Somewhere in my broken heart" I cried, remembering the break up of '92. Anyhow, he has a new cd out called "let them be little", he brought his 2 yr. old nephew up on stage and sang it to him, but at the same time a lady two rows over had a heart attack or something, and everyone was standing up, moving the chairs, EMT came in, police, the security staff and everyone. So, Billy Dean ended the concert early so they could take care of her. It was great fun.

It has been such a long week eventhough we started out with a holiday. We spent most of Monday mowing the grass, washing the cars and the outdoor playset (which was so dirty, Jake's rear side was black after sliding down). The kids hadn't been using it through the hot summer, but it was a fun family project to do together. Finally the girls and I went to see "March of the Penguins". I really loved it. Emily had a hard time sitting thru it...about 25 min. into it she asked to go to the bathroom which is always her way of getting out of where she is.....isn't it for us all?
Tuesday we were back to our normal school schedule (and found out Emily begins preschool thurs. Yeah!) I spent the morning going through the kids closets to donate clothes to the children's hospital who had 300 kids from the gulf coast to bathe and who had not many clothes of their own. I taught the Home management lesson at Enrichment then hurried home so Gene could attend his second fantasy football draft.
Weds. I spent most of the day cramming for my new testament final. Emily and Jacob have been a great help around the house. They pride themselves in making their own beds, putting clothes in the laundry and folding towels (it's the only thing I don't mind being not straight). They can pick up toys faster than I can. Luckily they both have been getting naps daily as we run the afternoon carpool. It's funny to pull into the driveway at home 35 minutes later and see their panic-stricken faces "where's Tara, we forgot to get Tara" and then turn around and see her in the back seat. Surprisingly Tara's had alot of homework.
Thursday I successfully made it through my final exam at the institute, only to come out and see a policeman giving me a ticket for parking incorrectly. I can honestly say this was the first time this has ever happened to me....he turns around and says"oh, good, you had better get moving. A tow truck is on it's way" Wheesh...that was close.
Saturday was the primary talent show. Kids displayed a variety of talents, blowing bubbles, jumping rope, homemade lego movies and gymnastics. Tara and Emily spent some time painting and wanted to show theirs at the talent show. I'll include a picture.
Happy Grandparents' Day to all the great grandparents out there. We sure appreciate you.

Well, Happy Boom's Day to you all. For those of you not from Tennessee, it's our way of celebrating Labor Day and another excuse to have a grandios display of fireworks.
We are all sick this weekend. Lucky we have another day to recover with tomorrow off of school and work. Emily and I have come up with several projects to work on while Tara has been at school. One of which was duct taping the broken crayons back together....only then going to Walmart and seeing that crayons are $0.24 per box!!!!
Tara has begun carpooling with our neighbor Shelby who also started Kindergarten this year. Her Mom has to be to work at 8 so, it works out perfectly...and I don't have to get all of us out the door by 7:30am. I had our first parent/teacher conference and Tara's teacher had nothing but great things to say about her. She has been a special friend to William, who speaks only spanish and Mika who only has 4 fingers on one hand. Mrs. Hart remarked how kind hearted and careful she is with them. The only not so good thing I've noticed about going to school in east Tennessee is....Tara came home saying "William starts with 'dub-ya'"...we have to correct pronounciation daily!!! Tara came home Thurs. and said
"We had a disaster day" and then went on to explain other things she did...none of which sounded like a disaster to me. Then later when I put Emily in time out and set the timer, it beeped and Tara continued the earlier conversation saying, "when the beeper makes a loud noise at school, you line up quickly and get out of the building for the disaster day." OHHH...i get it now.
We had a visitor for a few days a kitty named "stripes". It is our neighbors cat but, after playing with the kids one afternoon, he wouldn't go home. So we fed it and played for a few days ....but, I guess he's a free spirit because yesterday we couldn't find him and haven't seen him since. We will continue to fight these colds and hope you all are well. Here are a few photos from our summer trip to Nauvoo.
