Girl's camp

This was Tara's first year of girl's camp.  All the first years piled on the slide.   They had an olympic theme and had the rings of all the virtue colors on their t-shirts and "go for the gold" on the back.

Tara and her "sweet"  blue shoes on her way to a class.  Luckily there were other people who took pictures non-stop and shared them..otherwise I'd have no photos of her.

 This was a day she had KP duty.  The little green beret in her hair was to represent France.  First years were Europe ...and had different things each day.  Spain-large flower, Sweden-pig tails with long ribbons in hair.

The first day the first years got the golden plunger for cleanest cabin.

Part of the games were archery.  Trying to release her inner "Katniss".  She did really well .  This shot is ,of course, without an arrow.  Now, after seeing Brave, she really wishes she had one of her own.

One day they went on a mile+ hike.  They had to drive to the location.

It was a little tight. 

Gene went along this year for the first time.  He began the "opening ceremonies" as a Greek Olympian with a torch.  He ran around the room a few times as the "games began".  These are moments when you amid the laughter say "yes, that is my Dad!"

Crafting with friend Brooke.  She made several cool bracelets and many more friends.  Not sure if you can really call this camping with cabins and air conditioning and all meals provided.  But, hey!  it was fun thanks to all the great leaders and girls!

School's out....scream and shout!

This year we were very excited to be out of school.  We decided to have a glow-in-the-dark party for with some of our school and church friends.  These first few are of the time before the sun went down. 

After dark there was alot of silliness.  They ran the length of the yard playing redlight green light with a real red and green light.  We had glow in the dark bubbles, drinks, ring toss, etc.  It was a blast!

5 girls in addition to my 2 spent the night!  It was  a long night but so worth it!

Since Girl's on the Run 5K was on a Sunday this year, Gene signed them up to do a 5K on a Saturday.  They were not last.....Emily did great.  They were on a father/daughter team.  They got to run downtown across the Henley Street bridge and it was televised on TV.

 Memorial day with a trip to see "THE AVENGERS!"and grilling smores on our new fire pit. 

There was a combined ward activity of etiquette dinner and dance with the Pellissippi ward.

Gene was able to go with Tara .  They were assigned "dates"....Tara was really nervous but had alot of fun.  We got some blurry pictures of her first dance.

We've joined the YMCA so we can swim on days we don't have other things planned.

Jacob's regatta boat he made from a small water bottle and foam pieces duct taped to the side.  We have better plans for next year and hope that Dad's in town to help build the next one.

The scouts were asked to help put flags on the veteran's graves for Memorial Day.  This year Jacob and I helped.

It was tricky trying to line them up exactly.  Next year we'll bring our power drills like the really prepared scouts did.

Jacob went to cubscout day camp this year for the first time.  He's in the middle with the red headband turned around to smile.  He was in Den 10 with his friend Andrew.
