Emily's rhythm festival
The first and second graders did cool moves with colored flags, sticks and parachutes. I know it sounds funny, but it was alot of fun. Emily's class got to do the parachute...sort of move around to music. She's in the brown pants and green t-shirt. Tara was in charge of the camera while I video taped...I know, it's bad....but, it's all we could do today. At the end, they all got inside the parachute and stuck their heads out.
Jacob's lemonade
The kindergarten put on a musical show called "Lemonade"...I need Gene to help me put the video clip up...these were the best shots with the camera I could get (not good). He's in a blue t-shirt on the right side. Mr. Wilson his music teacher is at the microphone.
Tow Tater
For ST. Patrick's day, the kids each made potatoes into characters to help celebrate "potato day"....Jacob chose Tow mater from CARS....we changed his name to Tow Tater. We used the wheels from this lego catapult, the hook from buzz light year and created the rest with card board so he would look dirty and rusted.

"March"ing on!
Top 10 things we learned this week:
10. 5 Days of rain in a row really can put a damper on things.
(4 of our 5 umbrellas have broken this week due to excess use)
9. I am not a dog person.
(We are taking care of a friend's dog...everyone loves her but me and she knows
it...she peed on my bathroom carpet to show me...6 more days to go)
8. Jacob has a future in musical dramas (I will try to include his kindergarten show
of "lemonade")
7. Always look behind you when backing up your car.
Gene learned this the hard way...we are so used to having the whole driveway to ourselves, he just forgot to look....he ran into and smashed the plummers truck, broke his own tail light and dented his rim. I thought he was bowling for the trash cans again.
5. It's sad when the payment for hitting the plummers truck cost more than the shower repair he was originally called to fix.
6. 5th graders are really not that bad.
I finally had a chance to substitute 5th grade on Friday. Since their teacher "passed out" at 6:45am. I was called in late..and all the kids were excused tardies! Yeah....it was picture day and a few of us, not to name any names, had to change their outfit a few times. They were great kids there was no trouble at all.
I was scared at first because some are almost as big as me....and it was Friday the 13th.
5. It feels wonderful to finally take a shower without having to stand on the drain the whole time.
4. Throwing up in the bathtub isn't always a good idea.
Emily found that out on Monday....the problem is that she was IN the tub FILLED with water. The flu was going around. Emily missed 2 days, Tara 4 and Jacob 1. I kept him home "just incase".
3. Letting the friend's dog out without a leash is not a great idea.
The first day we had Jezebel, I told Tara, "just let her out the door and watch her"....next thing I know, 2 girls in tears show up muddy to their knees, soaked hair and jackets saying they've lost the dog. 1 hour later she shows up at the door like nothings up.
2. There is such a thing as recorder karate
Tara is learning to play the recorder in school. She's working on her "purple belt"...she's passed every song on the first try.

Despite this week's blunders.....I still love them all just the same.

We found out that Tara loves shrimp....well, grilled shrimp anyway. Gene was thrilled to find a sea food lover in the family. We used sunscreen....a 50 even. But, we missed a few spots on Emily...and Gene's knees. Emily looked like a raccoon,bright red around her eyes. ooops! We buried all the kids in the sand, except their heads. That was really fun. We got the kites out and didn't even have to hold the string. Just put the string under our beach chairs and let them fly themselves.
The kids loved the ocean. It was mezmorizing. We spent a couple hours there the first day, just walking along in the sand. There is nothing like bare feet in the sand. This place also had 3 pools, one heated, and 2 hot tubs. The kids didn't care that the unheated pools were cold. They just wanted to swim. It had free movie rentals and alot of room. The only thing that was hard, was getting them to do their homework, that we asked for ahead of time, so they wouldn't get behind in their classwork. No one wanted to do homework. Including Gene and I. We didn't watch the news or get on the internet for 4 days. Let me tell you, that was a welcome break.
Birthday Beach
We just got back from Fort Walton Beach, FL. We enjoyed 4 days of sunny 70 degree weather. It was the perfect birthday trip for Gene. We flew kites, made sand castles and sculptures, played in the waves, looked for shells (we even found a jelly fish washed up on shore). We stayed in a place overlooking the beach. I have never been there before..but the sand is white and it really is beautiful. The kids were great...it was a long 9 hour drive....but, they did great.
Gene's birthday isn't til Sunday, but we celebrated it there.
