Sorry I had no pictures to post today.
Amazing...the last day of January. It came and went so fast.
Today I helped in Tara's class...we made heart shaped numbers for their February calendar. Not as bad as the painting day in Dec.....but the glitter and glue was a bit tricky.
I stayed for lunch and it was fun to see her in action with her friends. Shelby our neighbor spent last week with us afterschool because daycare wasn't fun for her. We had a great time, but she decided to go back Monday. Tara is taking it personally. So, I've been trying to keep her busy and keep her mind off it.
I've been frantically studying for my midterm that I need to take Thurs.
Gene was so busy on Saturday. He began some remodeling we needed done. He opened my closet from a 3 ft. opening to a 6ft.....yeah I can see all of my 8 ft. closet and get into it! It was spring cleaning...I found a pillow to a chair we gave to some friends 3 years ago. It's been great I have found clothes I forgot I had.
He also luckily stumbled across a 50% sale on electric fireplaces. So, we replaced the piano on the far wall with a small fireplace. Again yeah! Just in time for the cold weather that we are expecting (not really), but it adds ambiance.and a place to hang our stockings next Christmas.
Jake heard the timer go off last night (when dinner was done) and he said "mommy....the chicken's out of time out"...I use that same timer for his "time out"..........I was cracking up.
Emily got a call from her preschool teacher, they were supposed to be back in class today, but her husband is in the hospital, so she'll start preschool on the 7th.
Thank you MJ for the photo. Tara opened the card and said "hey, she knows me." We put it on our family wall. We are planning on a family trip to Disneyland in 3 years. ..your house is on the itinerary.

Ok, we made it through the birthday week. Tara is so happy to be 6. She just can't believe she's finally there. I wish Ihad that much anticipation about celebrating my birthday now. Tues day she visited grandparents Borden and they gave her some girly nailpolish and lipglosses. She carries them around in her backpack. She's so cool. We bought her a book to donate to the school library called Emily's first 100 days of school (Emily picked it out). They gave her a balloon and the book to bring home for a few days...then it will be officially donated. Her teacher gave her a fun birthday cake hat and bag of goodies. Then that night we went out to eat at Steak and Shake, now mind you we have not eaten in public as a family in 2 years. But, the kids actually did really well and sat and ate their food happily without incident.
Then Tara opened her family present...an electric barbie guitar with hands free microphone. It pretty much plays by itself, but she thinks she's so cool, singing along with her own echoing voice. "Up" by Shania Twain and "Survivor".
She had a friend/neighbor Shelby come over Friday and they both were bouncing off the walls with excitement. (In the meantime Emily and Jake had fevers and just layed on the couches limp all day). At one point I thought I might have to cancel the party, if the kids were sick....luckily it was a quick 24 hour thing and no one was sick come Sat. morning.
We had 10 kids plus Tara and Emily (one kid who just heard about the party and just came). It was a crazy house but, we did all the games Tara wanted...limbo, chicken dance, hokey pokey, musical chairs, made shell necklaces, throw the ball through the mermaid head, etc. It was a whirlwind day. Tara got a hermit crab "herman" from her friend Mika from school. He has yet to make an appearance. Tara is mostly afraid of him and hasn't even touched his cage yet.
Oh well. One down 2 to go.

Well, hello one and all. We were at a mildly breezy 61 yesterday. Tara was sweating in her coat when I picked her up from school yesterday. It will rain today but not go below 55. Anyone care to move here for a milder winter?
We are all doing well. We are over the Christmas cough (that lasted for almost 3 weeks for Tara). Gene is back into the swing of things at work. Seems to be going well with the new management.
Tara came home from school last Friday with 2 scraps of paper with her friends "phone numbers"....although not legible to me or her father. She proceeded to dial her memorized version of the numbers and actually got to talk to her school friends on the phone. She wanted to call someone everyday and thinks she should (like her 7 yr. old friend Emma) have a phone in her room). Is it just me, or is this whole chatting on the phone thing starting a little young?
I was listening to her talk and she said "well, how many lamps do you think I have in my house?...I have one on the table , one in my room.....all together 5!" I just started laughing (who talks about lamps in their house? A 5 yr old to another 5 yr. old.!)
She went to a classmate's pirate party on Saturday. She painted her fingernails black, wore an eyepatch and Jake's pirate hat. She ended up being the only girl. She nailed the "pin the eye patch on the pirate" (everyone else was in the black) right on the eye. She got 4 out of 5 gold coins in the bucket (no one else even got 2)...and watched the boys run in circles for 40 minutes but, had a good time. She is anxiously awaiting her #6 party next Saturday. She wants a 'Little Mermaid" party. (Emily wants Nemo and Jake wants a pirate party) So, we'll just leave the living room decorated like the beach for a month!
Emily likes primary, but not as much as I thought she would. She headed straight back to the nursery this past Sunday. Guess old habits die hard....
The crazy thing this week is Jake and Emily fight over everything. They copy each other and make each other scream "Mom, he's copying me!" ...."Mom, he's copying me". Ugh. They fight like Jake says "Emily we are going to get Tara at school" and Emily replies "Uhuhh....we are getting Tara at KINDERGARTEN" ...then Jake 'NO SCHOOL!'
I need a record player that repeats "inside voices, don't fight, use inside voices, don't fight"
Jake tried Emily's gymnastic class (because he's almost 3)....and loved it but could not sit while being instructed. He was a little jumping bean, but could do everything in the class. He was happy but then complained that he didn't get to watch Dora in the waiting room. Ohwell.
All is well here....hope it is with you too!
