I love to see the temple

This week in Young Women's we talked about the temple and made these gold foil ink drawings of the temple.

I had forgotten how fragile that gold leaf is.....if you sneeze, your picture is toast.

Kris, I know you will remember making these. I'm surprised, but yes, they do still carry the supplies at the hobby store. (AC Moore-here). The young girls were happy to make theirs and did a good job...even though I didn't get a photo of them.

But, Emily and Tara were so excited, you would not believe how they bugged me every day..."Please mom, can we make one now?" We finally had a free minute on Saturday and they did all the inking themselves. They each needed a bit of help on the gluing and foiling. But, I think they turned out great. I am happy most of all to see them be excited about the temple.

Emily the decorator

Emily has a great talent for using unsusal items to decorate. I think I'll start writing all of them down incase she becomes a interior designer and needs some good ideas later in life.

This is the latest thing I have found.

A domino floor for the barbie house. It actually goes quite well with the other decor. I wonder how comfortable it is to walk on.

Shiny new shoes

I knew it at the time....I took a picture of our new shoes for school this year. They look so sparkly and shiny. Everyone needed new shoes, not because the old ones had worn out, but because our feet have grown too much over the summer.

Sure enough, 3 weeks later our new shoes are not so sparkly. But, they do still fit. Hopefully they will all last until Christmas.

the last swim of the season

We had one last swim today....it was chilly, but fun. We don't quite understand why Labor Day is a holiday...but, we don't have any problem celebrating it with no school and a play date with friends.

We enjoyed very much the long weekend. It was a welcome gift, actually. Illness is going around the schools. We have been very blessed so far to have not much more than a runny nose. With over half of my pre-k class out sick this past week, I was worried we would catch something.

Gene spent Saturday whacking....yes, whacking the bushes and trees in our yard. One branch whacked him back. It left him with a hole in his leg...looked like a straight puncture wound and has taken a while to start healing.

We had some fun today out with some families in our ward. Playing at a park (Gene played softball) and then swimming and then a bon fire, roasting hot dogs. It was fun and relaxing.

Gene went straight to work cooking 3 hotdogs at a time...notice Tara sitting beside him "helping" by roasting a marshmellow. I am quite sure she ate it before any kind of healthy food....that's ok.
